Fatal Four Online Writing Errors

Writing for the web is not a stroll in the park. As you come across various sections of readers glancing through your articles, it is vital to have a sense of variation in your style from time to time.

The online web is now a prominent means to data access in the world of today. Many online writers fail to realise that there is a particular art of delivering information through articles or blogs. Online writers have to strike a balance between authenticity and reader-friendly writing. Here are 4 of the most fatal errors to be strictly avoided while writing online.

1.    Bureaucratic writing – As many of you online writers may tend to figure out the context in which I am framing this; it refers to your style of writing. Remember, online writing is not a formal presentation, neither a lecture of sorts. Learn to add a personal touch to your writing. Readers frown upon a passive, offensive and dictating tone. Keep it upbeat and soft. One need not throw in the entire dictionary just to grab the reader’s attention. On the contrary, that might just repel them. Your article must have a friendly touch to it as well as knowledge-driven.

2.    Prolonging text – The basic reason for readers to surf on the internet for information is because it is Quicker and Easier! Readers do not have all the time in the world to wile away reading your article. When a person reads online, the flow is slow and the absorption power of the reader is relatively less. Your text must be short, yet insightful. It should be scannable for the reader to browse through and grasp instantly. Adding links that lead to other related information is another asset to your article. Do not include lengthy text unless the purpose calls for it.

3.    Anonymity – What good is a book without knowing the author? The visitors to your site or blog are not only seeking information, but also the source. Many online sites do include the information of their respective field but have no mention about them. They firstly reach you through a random search and are not aware of their source. State in information about your purpose and the nature of your work as a short mention. If you do have a gist of additional information, the chances of your readers revisiting your site would be comparatively higher.

4.    The ‘Main Message’ below – As I said before, to online readers, time is of the essence! If they are on the hunt for certain data and information, they prefer to be directly led to it. Although a writer should have a sense of bringing the ‘bigger picture’ in to play, he must not forget about the motive of his article. Ensure you do give a gist of an introduction, but then switch on to the main objective of your article immediately. Readers would not go through the entire page only to find what they were actually looking for right at the end. Get to the point in short time. The longer your article takes to get to the objective, the shorter you cut the attention span of your reader.

Online writing is an art of improvisation. Follow the right online techniques and synchronize them with your brilliant sense in writing. What follows is sheer prosperity!
